Asako Kando (they/them)
" Life challenges that you face cannot always be put into words. In music therapy, however, your innate musicality and creativity encourages you to reconnect with yourself emotionally, physically, culturally and spiritually through strength-based, participatory and self-empowering ways. Purposefully using the evidence-based aspects of music, integrating the current practices in trauma-informed cares, I support your journey in exploring yourself, fostering the connection and resilience, enriching your self-esteem, coping with stresses, navigating the challenges, and enhancing the holistic understanding of yourself.

I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families with diverse backgrounds. Specifically, I have been working with individuals in transition/cultural conflicts, and those in LGBTTQQIP2SAA/BIPOC communities. I’m also supporting creatives to strive in their creative journey. Difficulties related to hormonal wellbeing during the perinatal period and change of life (menopause) is another area that I focus on. My passion for anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, culturally-centered work stems from my own experiences in different countries (Egypt, India, Italy, and Japan) as a visible minority, during which I studied, worked, married, gave birth to children, parented, temporarily single parented, rebuilt a career, and pursued a new career.

Let’s take back control of your life. I am here to help you not just survive, but thrive. Sessions will be designed together with you incorporating your needs, values, preferences, and opinions. No musical skills are required. Everyone can benefit from music therapy. Please feel free to contact me, and visit my website as well for events, workshops, and resources."
